The Spring Closet Reset
Wendy on the annual closet edit: why a seasonal reset is the fastest way to dress with ease all summer.

Hey everyone, Wendy here!
May is when Metro Detroit closets start to feel… crowded. Winter coats still hanging next to sundresses, boots lingering on the floor, and that one sweater you swore you’d wear “one more time.” A spring closet reset is one of the highest-impact projects we do at Room to Grow, and it does not require a renovation.
Start with a clean pull
Take everything out. Yes, everything. You cannot edit what you cannot see. Sort into keep, donate, repair, and off-season. If it did not earn a wear this winter, it does not need a hanger this spring.
Give every keeper a home
Matching hangers, one direction, like with like. Fold heavy knits so they do not stretch. Put the pieces you actually reach for at eye level. The rest can live higher, lower, or in a labeled bin.
Build a tiny landing pad
A tray for jewelry, a dish for watches, a hook for tomorrow’s bag. The closet is not only storage — it is a morning ritual. Make the first thirty seconds of your day feel calm.
If your closet has been “next on the list” since last fall, this is your sign. Holly, Kelly, and I would love to do the reset with you.
